How a Three-Phase Mechanical Meter Works

Inside the meter, two or three voltage and current coils drive an aluminium disc. The disc rotates at a speed proportional to the power flowing through the meter, and the drum register counts the revolutions. There is no power supply, no firmware and no battery — the meter simply keeps counting for years, even in harsh environments.

When to Choose Mechanical Instead of Electronic
